Leeds United’s Brazilian star Raphinha is reportedly turning down a contract extension at the club, which has put the fans in fear of losing a very talented player. Leeds United are in a big relegation fight, and although the club sits 7 points clear of 18th placed Watford, there are doubts about the ability of the Peacocks to survive a second consecutive season in the Premier League.

Raphinha has undoubtedly been the star of the season for the Yorkshire club, scoring important goals and leading his team whenever needed. His goals have kept Leeds above the relegation zone for now, and he will be needed to continue the same form with just 8 games left to play. However, with the threat of relegation looming large, the 25-year-old is considering his options, with several top European clubs impressed by his performances for Leeds United.

The Brazilian forward has a contract with the Peacocks that runs out in 2024, and has a release clause of £70 million, which has deterred many clubs. As a result, Raphinha has reportedly told the club that he will only sign a contract extension if the amount of release clause is reduced, which will boost his chances of joining any other interested club. UOL have reported that the talks have since reached a stalemate, and there have been no fresh talks about signing an agreement.

With previous manager, Marcelo Bielsa departing and American coach Jesse Marsch replacing him at the helm, there could be a few squad changes in the summer. Leeds United are still undecided on Raphinha and there is a possibility that the forward could be sold for a bid as high as £60 million. There is no hiding the fact that the Peacocks do not boast the financial abilities of the other big clubs, and could cash in on the Brazilian if they are relegated this season.

The 25-year-old has a number of top clubs interested in him, with Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool, German club Bayern Munich all keen on signing the talented Brazilian. Reliable transfer-guru Fabrizio Romano has also stated that Spanish club Barcelona could be a possible destination for the forward, with coach Xavi looking to boost his squad for a title challenge next season.

Leeds United have offered to double Raphinha’s wages, but the Brazilian is still considering his option and is persisting on a drop in the release clause. The Leeds number 10 could be on his way out of Elland Road next summer, and many clubs across Europe will be waiting eagerly for his decision.
