Leeds United has had a fantastic transfer window this summer. They have signed six players so far and the Whites are on the verge of bagging the seventh signing in the form of Leo Hjelde from Celtic.
According to a report from the Football Insider, Leeds United are very close towards securing Leo Hjelde and even a medical has been booked for the Norwegian. Celtic were, however, hesitant to sell him but the 18-year-old was adamant about leaving. Leo Hjelde was also on the verge of running his contract down since his current contract ends next summer.
Celtic and Leeds United were in constant talks for a few weeks and an agreement was finally reached for the departure of the teenager. Leo Hjelde is yet to make a senior appearance for the club but he has been constantly involved at the youth setup. He even spent the second part of last season on loan at Ross County and made a total of 12 appearances and also scored a goal for them.
Leeds United have been a long time admirer of him. They were interested in him two years ago but decided to not move for him. Now after constantly watching him they are keen on adding him. Even the medical is already booked for the 18-year-old. And if the deal goes through, this would be the seventh signing for the Whites and the fourth signing that will be moved straight into the Under 23 squad. However, with the skill set the centre-back has, it would not be very long since he breaks into the first team.
Leo Hjelde is also regarded as the next Virgil Van Dijk for his similar playing style to the Liverpool centre-back. This honour was given by the former manager of Ross County, John Hughes who said “the Norwegian is a massive talent who is going to be the next Virgil van Dijk, trust me on that”.
