Liverpool travels to tenth-placed Elland Road for a late Monday night kickoff. The Reds are in the hunt for a top-four finish to save their season and secure themselves a spot in next year’s Champions League. The Whites, on the other hand, are aiming to make inroads in the top half of the table and possibly even secure themselves a spot in Europe.

Given the indifferent form of almost every club in the league, each game in the final stages of the season matters even more. Both sides will look to come away with three points tonight.

WHEN & WHERE?

Time: 20:00 PM (BST)
Date: Monday, 19th April

Liam Cooper’s red card against Manchester City in the side’s last league game means that he will be suspended for the next three games, and hence, will not be available for the clash against Liverpool.

Marcelo Bielsa mentioned that Raphinha’s availability will be dependent on the assessment made before the game following the knock he picked up at the Etihad Stadium. Finally, Rodrygo is still recovering from his muscular injury and hence will not be available on Monday night.

Jurgen Klopp had mentioned in his latest press conference that he had no fresh injury concerns for the game against Leeds. Something that has proven to be a rarity for the Reds this season. The likes of Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Joel Matip are ruled out for the rest of the season, and Jordan Henderson is expected to be fit only for the final couple of games this season.

Thiago Alcantara hasn’t started the last three games for his side, so it’s highly likely that he gets his chance on Monday night. Further, Sadio Mane’s poor run of form puts into question whether he is deserving of a place in the starting eleven.

RECENT FORM

Leeds United’s recent Premier League form (W-W-W-D-L):

A win at the Etihad Stadium did come as a shock to most football lovers. However, given Bielsa’s side’s draw against Pep Guardiola earlier this season, perhaps Leeds United were underestimated last weekend. Three consecutive wins will give them huge confidence against Liverpool, a team who have looked a shadow of their former selves this season.

After a disappointing mid-week exit from the UEFA Champions League, Liverpool will now turn their complete attention to the Premier League. To be fair to them, Liverpool have made progress from their rotten run in the first 2 and a half months of 2021. Like Leeds, they too have three consecutive wins in the league, each against competitive opposition; Wolves, Arsenal, and Aston Villa.
