After completing many signings early on in this summer transfer window, Leeds United might look at their latest signing in the form of a backup goalkeeper to Illan Meslier after Kiko left the Elland Road to join the Spanish club Elche CF.

According to various reports, the Whites were interested in the Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. The 24-year-old has not yet made any professional appearance for Newcastle United. Freddie was part of the Swansea City squad in the Championship for the last two seasons. The loan move has been quite successful for Freddie since he had featured 95 times and kept 35 clean sheets in the last two seasons for the Swans. He also won the Golden Glove in the Championship last season.

It is believed that Freddie Woodman is Leeds United’s number one target for replacing Kiko Casilla and according to various reports, right after Freddie Woodman’s loan move to Bournemouth fell through post his Medicals – Leeds United saw it as an opportunity and made a bid for him in recent days. According to The Athletic, the 24-year-old was quick to reject the move and with Dubravka’s injury looking serious, Newcastle United may keep him for this season.

Leeds United have a list of other candidates too after Freddie Woodman rejected them. The Whites are looking at Kristoffer Klaesson who plays for the Norwegian club Valerenga. Leeds United have been long-term admirers of him and they can move for the young goalkeeper in the coming days.

Another name coming up for the backup position is Levante’s, Dani Cárdenas. Although he is not as regular for his club as Kristoffer Klaesson but the 24-year-old is highly looked upon at his club. It is said that Leeds United wants to quickly make the backup goalkeeper addition before their first pre-season game kicks off on 27 July.
