Leeds United were looking to strengthen various areas in their squad, out of which goalkeeping was one of the most important. Marcelo Bielsa’s squad was actively looking to add a new goalkeeper since Kiko Casilla had reiterated that he wanted to leave the club at the beginning of the transfer window.
Kiko Casilla departed to join the Spanish side Elche on loan. The deal has an option to buy. Kiko has already said that he does not desire to return to England and that he wants to stay in Spain where his family resides.
While Leeds United had a couple of targets in mind for the key position it was with Kristoffer Klaesson that they were actively talking. Though Leeds United had another name in mind that was Newcastle United goalkeeper Freedie Woodman. But he wanted first place over Illan Meslier.
Kristoffer Klaesson has played 56 matches for Valerenga so far. He was pushing for a move to Elland Road after the interest from Leeds United. With his arrival, Leeds United now have two very young and future-ready goalkeepers who are ready to lead the line at the club.
