According to The Athletic, Barcelona’s left-back, Junior Firpo is already in Yorkshire to complete his switch to Leeds United. The player is believed to undergo his medical anytime today. Leeds United started their interest in the 24-year-old last week and have been really quick to finalize the deal. It is believed that the Italian giants AC Milan were in for the Barcelona left-back but the player chose Leeds United after Marcelo Bielsa personally convinced him to move.
It is a win-win situation for all the parties involved, especially Barcelona who are going through major financial difficulties currently and are looking to sell more players to make space for the huge wage bill regarding their star player Lionel Messi. Junior Firpo has rarely had game time after he moved to Barcelona from Real Betis in 2019. In the last season, he made seven Liga appearances out of which he started only in 3 for Barcelona. The youngster was fairly disappointed with the treatment and decided to move elsewhere in the search of game time.
Leeds United have definitely got themselves a good deal. According to various reports, the player would cost Leeds United nearly £15 million including the add-on fees. Firpo will immensely help the Leeds United squad who were already looking for the left-back position in the transfer market. Leeds United are very active in the transfer market after their impressive 9th place finish last season in the Premier League.
