Leeds United have been dealt with a huge blow with 24-year-old midfielder Kalvin Phillips picking up an injury in their win over Swansea City on Sunday.
Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa revealed that the Phillips has been ruled out of the game against Barnsely and would most likely miss out on the rest of their campaign, sidelined for up to five weeks.
“Kalvin is not going to play in Thursday’s match. We don’t know if he’s going to play the next two matches as well. He has a problem in the knee and probably is not going to be involved in the last three, but in the worst scenario it’s an injury we are going to resolve in four or five weeks.”
Phillips reacted to the injury on his Instagram account, while issuing a rally call to his teammate to ensure their side’s promotion to the top-flight.
“Heartbroken I will be missing the last 3 games of the season. Anyone that knows me knows it’s killed me. This unfortunate injury has happened and I am beyond gutted, I can’t help the lads at such an important time on the pitch.
“I will make sure I’m there for everyone off the pitch! Still three massive games to go and we will need everyone to get to our goal. For the majority of Leeds fans I can assure you I will be a nervous wreck watching just like the rest of you guys!”
Phillips has been an integral part of Bielsa’s squad this season, and has played an instrumental role leading the Leeds midfield and protecting the defence. The Englishman, who has fondly been termed as the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ by Leeds supporters, has already made 40 appearances for the Whites this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
