Sean McGurk’s contract with Wigan Athletic expired on June 30. But Wigan Athletic will still receive a certain amount of fee for their role in the youngster’s development. The widely reported fee is said to be around £175,000.
Wigan Athletic in a statement said: “The Club would like to thank Sean for his efforts during his time at the Club, and wish him all the best for the future”.
Leeds United had been interested in him for a year now. The Whites made preliminary inquiries about him during the last summer transfer window. Leeds United made additional efforts to sign the teenager in the January transfer window but any deal didn’t materialize at that time. Now finally after a year, the Whites have signed their man. It is believed that Sean McGurk would be inducted in the U23 squad.
The attacking midfielder’s signing tells us a story of Leeds United trying to move for youngsters more often than before thus trying to build a squad keeping in mind about the future.
We wish the best for the youngster’s future and hope that he succeeds in his stint at Leeds United.
